BeiJing #11 - Dongyuemiao


The Beijing Dongyue Temple is a Taoist temple in the Chaowai area.
The temple is dedicated to the God of Mount Tai.
Founded during the Yuan Dynasty, it is the largest temple of the Zhengyi school of Daoism in northern China and protected as a National Key Cultural Relict.
The temple also serves as the Beijing Folk Customs Museum.












Mount Tai is one of the "Five Sacred Mountains".

It is associated with sunrise, birth, and renewal, and is often regarded the foremost of the five.
The temples on its slopes have been a destination for pilgrims for 3,000 years.
